Lipedema Care

Conservative and Integrative Clinical Pathways

Support for lipedema and lymphoedema focuses on non-medical therapeutic care, with an emphasis on comfort, mobility, lymphatic function and quality of life.

No medical diagnoses are made and no medical treatments are performed. Our support is complementary and always provided in collaboration with the treating physician, usually a vascular surgeon or general practitioner.

Lipedema is a chronic condition requiring comprehensive, multidisciplinary care. Maison Ipanema Institute provides therapeutic support within our defined scope of practice, working alongside medical specialists who provide diagnosis, prescription and surgical care.

Our approach emphasises conservative management, client education and improvement in quality of life, while maintaining appropriate referral pathways for medical intervention.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about lipedema care and our therapeutic approach.

Do you diagnose lipedema?

No. Maison Ipanema Institute does not provide medical diagnosis. Lipedema is diagnosed by qualified physicians, typically vascular specialists or experts in lymphatic medicine. We provide therapeutic support for individuals with diagnosed or suspected lipedema.

We provide support for all stages of lipedema, from early-stage conservative management to advanced-stage support. Care plans are individualised according to presentation, goals and medical recommendations.

No. Our therapeutic support complements medical care. We work alongside physicians who provide diagnosis, prescription medication when needed and surgical interventions. We do not replace medical treatment.

Yes. We provide education and support for compression therapy, which is often a key component of lipedema management. Prescription compression is ordered by physicians; we assist with application, fitting guidance and integration into daily life.

We do not promise specific outcomes. Therapeutic support may help with comfort, mobility, self-management skills and quality of life. Individual responses vary, and we maintain realistic expectations focused on supportive care.

We refer when medical evaluation is needed for diagnosis, when symptoms suggest complications, when surgical consultation may be appropriate, or when the presentation is outside our therapeutic scope. Clear referral criteria are part of our governance framework.

Many individuals with lipedema benefit from ongoing support, although frequency and intensity vary. Initial intensive phases often transition to maintenance care. Your care plan will outline the recommended timelines.

Our pathway includes initial assessment, care planning, therapeutic intervention and ongoing monitoring, with referral when indicated. Each step is documented and coordinated with your wider care team.
